What do you do when you are not skating? My life revolves around dogs. I used to work at a dog daycare and my Goldendoodle Bogey was born in March, so raising a puppy takes up all my free time! If you get me talking about dogs, I won’t shut up. My dude and I also really enjoy going to movies and concerts!

What made you decide to join roller derby? I’ve been fascinated by derby for a decade. My freshman English teacher skated for Rose City and I have been hooked ever since- I even wrote a speech about it in college. I realized this past year that I was so wrapped up my work, that I didn’t have any solo hobbies and my personal life was suffering because of it. I have wanted to skate for 10 years and I finally had an opportunity to start!

What keeps you motivated to keep skating? I am very hard on myself. I have a terrible habit of giving up on something when I “suck” at something. When I started at Storm City I could barely stay up on my skates and it was pretty tough mentally to get past that uncomfortable feeling of struggling. But, I see everyone skating and hear their stories and it keeps me encouraged to keep trying. I want to prove to myself that I can push past the uncomfortable part of trying something new. Derby is something I have wanted to do for so long, I feel I owe it to myself to stop quitting and instead push myself and see how far I can go!

If you had six months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with the time? At first, I would put all my time and energy into creating healthy habits and a positive, healthy, and organized lifestyle. Then I would love to use that new health to travel and do various service trips around the World and be to serve and immerse myself in different cultures. I would also do some baller stuff like swimming in a shark cage, sip mimosas on a yacht in Greece and go visit the island of stray dogs in Costa Rica.

Name three interesting/random facts about yourself:

  1. I Have protan color blindness (red-green)
  2. I taught myself to play the trombone with my feet when I was a young (and flexible) band nerd
  3. I really want to experience wearing a bite suit and being tackled by a K-9 officer
