What is the significance of your derby name and number?:
When I was in 6th grade, everyone called me Sunny D, since it sounded like my real name. I also feel like I have a really positive and radiant personality, a Sunny personality! My number is 86 because it is my Dad’s birthday, and he has and always will be my number one derby supporter.
What do you do when you are not skating?
When I am not skating, I am hanging out with my daughter and being a full time student, or spending time with my family and friends.
What made you decide to join roller derby?
I decided to join roller derby when I was 12, I was really looking for something to be a part of and a sport to fall in love with. Derby has given me both a community to be part of, and an amazing sport to be in love with.
Who is your derby crush/hero?
My derby hero is Root of All Evil, she was my captain while I was a junior skater, and one of my really good friends. I consider her to be my “big sister”. She is an outstanding blocker and a committed teammate.
If you had six months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with the time?
I would go travel around Africa with my mom and help families and children in need!
