What is the significance of your derby name and number?
The name were given to me by a family member. I am a rainbow girl and Skittles are my all time favorite candy – also somewhat rhymes with “little”. “Ninja” is because how small, strong, fierce, quick and silent but deadly little lady I am on my skates. Number 7 has always brought me luck.
What do you do when you are not skating?
Raising my little Gem. Work. Loving all the dogs. Family. The adventurous of camping. Going to car shows with my dad. I always appreciate LIFE!
What made you decide to join roller derby?
When I first put on a pair of roller-blades at 5 years old – it became my life. I’d take our old family dog, Blaze and skated my heart out with him until it got dark. No matter how wonderful or rough life can be – skating was the only thing I knew how to cope with everything in life and be free. I have a great love for skating. When I heard there were a league in Vancouver – I couldn’t resist but to join derby!! … did I mention I absolutely LOVE to skate?
What keeps you motivated to keep skating?
Life can be very exhausting at times. When I put on my skates, it would be just me and the wheels – everything else didn’t matter. After I’m done skating, I always feel stronger, refreshed and in a great mood. A relief in life that I need. I’ve always loved how skating make me feel has always kept me motivated to keep skating.
What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to join derby or what was the best advice given to you?
Don’t ever compare yourself to other skater to put yourself down. Everybody thrives differently. Be confident when you fall, get your ass back up with your tits held up high and keep skating to get better!!!
If you had six months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with the time?
I would definitely get my little bubbly butt to Cape Horn, at the tip of South America and skate around it!!
