What is the significance of your derby name?
I love everything from the 30’s through the 50’s, mainly the music. Splatsy Cline is obviously just play on Patsy Cline. I appreciate her for being a strong classy woman who could hold her own around the men of the industry. She was self taught and could never read sheet music. I also have the tendency to trip people with my giraffe legs.
League responsibility: Training Committee
What do you do when you’re not skating?
Working as a property manager, spending time with my kids (usually on skates), running events, photo bombing the sweet memories of others, concerts, laughing, brainstorming sick ideas for Cards Against Humanity.
What made you decide to join roller derby?
A friend of mine took me to my first bout in 2007 (HH vs. GNR) and I’ve loved derby ever since. Life got busy and in 2012 I joined Wreckers. When I heard Vancouver started their own league, I was all over it!
What keeps you motivated to keep skating?
My family and all of these amazing women I’ve come to know and love. Also to see how I can improve and become a stronger skater.
Who is your derby crush/hero?
Who doesn’t have a crush on Scald Eagle? Have you seen her skate? Roarshock Tess is probably my hero, though. Great skater and always maintains a positive attitude.
What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to join derby or what was the best advice given to you?
If you are even remotely curious, give it a try. When you do, get lower.
